NDIDI DIKE
Ndidi Dike is a sculptor and specialist in mixed media painting. At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, she took a Diploma in Music, and later a B.A. in Fine and Applied Arts in 1984.
Her name is synonymous with carved cloth, and embellished cylindrical staffs which bear recognisable designs and patterns of Adinkra, Aso-Oke, Akwete, Kente, and the Ivorian raffia clothes. She has commenced on totem-pole project wherein she is exploring their future and modern applications.
This present project represents a bold articulation of what her earlier works had fervently and dutifully championed. Totems and signposts is a brave incursion into a multicontextual ethnological significance, the graphological indications of dual projections of a woman’s honour, and beauty as indicated in applied Uli, and Nsibidi symbols.
